     DLC and how it works.

First a few basic rules. DLC cannot be "shared" between consoles without a few rules. We will break it down in various situations. There are five main components

  • GT (Account)

  • DLC (Download Content)

  • Xbox (Xbox 360 Console)

  • HDD (Xbox Hard Disk Drive)

  • XBL (Xbox Live Network)

Of those four there are two divisions

  • A (Original)

  • B (Any other)

So as an example: HDD A, moved to Xbox B. Simply means, the hard drive was transferred from one console to the other.

All DLC is locked to the console it is downloaded to, as this is a relative term we will use HDD A and Xbox A as "Original" console. Then all DLC is attached ultimately to the GT. Xbox Live is needed in these situations to validate the owner of the content.

  • All DLC can be accessed by any GT if it's downloaded from Xbox A to HDD A. Connected or not, to XBL

  • All DLC can not be accessed if  HDD A is moved to Xbox B if not connected to XBL

  • All DLC can be accessed if HDD A is moved to Xbox B if the GT that purchased it is connected to XBL and signed in

  • All DLC can not be accessed if  HDD A is moved to Xbox B if the GT that purchased it is not connected to XBL but signed in

Basically, the GT that purchased the DLC needs to be verified by XBL if it's been moved from one console to another. Since two GTs cannot exist online at the same time this is used as a way to protect property.

Any GT can re-download content to a "second" Xbox 360. But can only access it if that GT is signed in and connected to XBL.

Microsoft has provided a license transfer tool for those users who purchased or received a replacement Xbox 360, allowing all DLC to be locked to the new console.. This can only be used once every 365 days.
