    DLC and how it works.   

First a few basic rules. DLC cannot be "shared" between consoles without a few rules. We will break it down in various situations. There are five main components

  • Console
  • Hard Drive
  • Profile
  • Xbox Live Network
  • DLC

I will explain the first 3 to help as a guide.

  • Any profile can access DLC just as long as the HDD stays on the same console. Connected to Xbox Live or not.
  • DLC cannot be accessed if a friend puts their HDD on one console, no matter who purchased the content, if the HDD goes to another console and you are not connected to Xbox Live.
  • Only the profile that purchased the DLC can access the content if the HDD was transferred from the console that downloaded it to another. Provided the fact that the profile is connected to Xbox Live.

Basically, the GT that purchased the DLC needs to be verified by XBL if it's been moved from one console to another. Since two GTs cannot exist online at the same time this is used as a way to protect property.

Any GT can re-download content to a "second" Xbox 360. But can only access it if that GT is signed in and connected to XBL.

Microsoft has provided a license transfer tool for those users who purchased or received a replacement Xbox 360, allowing all DLC to be locked to the new console.. This can only be used once every 365 days.
