As of
recently
BootBlack had posted an Official F.A.Q. on the
Xbox.com forums. Please enjoy. In the meantime I'm keeping my original one here.
FAQs for
the masses
Workin' on it... This FAQ is
from a users point of view.
What is the percentage of avoid player feedback will it take to
get me suspended.
None. Bad feedback has nothing to do
with suspensions.
On my bio is says Code of Conduct, I did not put that there.
Something was in the field that violates the
CoC. You may also have received a suspension.
I called Xbox Live support, they can't tell me why I was
suspended.
Live support has no access to the
details, they can only verify the accounts status.
Well how do I find out why I was suspended.
An email was sent informing you the
basics. The information was sent to the email address attached to your account.
I am suspended for payment options.
What is that?
The credit card that was set for auto
renewal for your gold subscription has either been canceled, expired, or
reached it's limit. MS had made numerous attempts to receive payment.
Why didn't my account revert to silver
when MS attempted to charge an invalid card?
It is the users responsibility to keep
their account up to date. MS cannot change a users' membership status, or
payment options without their permission.
K, so what happens now?
You can either call Microsoft's
customer support line and update your new information with them, or pay the
outstanding balance. Or log into the billing site at
http://billing.microsoft.com
and update your payment details. You cannot do this via dashboard due to the
suspension.
K, what happens if ignore this?
After numerous attempts your account
will be locked for abandonment and cannot be retrieved.
I play Halo 3, I have been suspended
from matching games. Why did Live do this?
Wait, Stop.
That was Bungie. They have their own banhammer. Most cases you had surpassed the
predetermined threshold ratio of games played / games quit.
I received a message to log into a
website to get free points. What was that about?
That is a
message intended to steal your account. It's called Phishing. It's a fake MS
site asking you top log in and your details are mailed to a fourth party. NEVER
enter these sites and report them to MS.
I cannot access my download content
that I paid for what happened?
As DLC was
engineered to prevent theft there are many pages to help users with this issue.
Click here on how DLC works. Also visit the LINKS page for
further information.
I have been playing on my 360 for a while now, and finally have Internet. Can I merge my "offline" profile to an "online one"
Well, no. All profiles are different from each other. No content can be
shared between profiles with the exception of DLC. You CAN make the offline profile to on online one.
This can only be done via the 360. If you created another profile on
xbox.com or on the 360, and you have a zero Gamerscore. Consider that a
"secondary" account. So, my Gamerscore got reset to zero, and it
says I'm a cheater in my xbox.com profile what happened?
If a user
uses a third party method to gain achievements without earning them the
normal way, like playing the game, MS routinely scans the system and
enforces a reset. Ultimately the ill gotten achievements can never be
earned again. See this page for more information.
Terminology /
Glossary
~OR~
Commonly Misused Terms
Banned
It's rare a user
is banned. Most cases of a CoC violation or payment issue the user is
suspended.
Beta / Beta Tester
Many times there is
a
public stress test,
or a
limited demo.
There are very few times these are actually in beta phase. The Xbox Dashboard
preview program is the most common ill-defined one. MGS does have a beta
program, and some of which are open public betas, not all of them are as users
claim.
ethernet
The word
itself is fine but it's bad grammar, the correct way to type it is
Ethernet,
it's a proper noun. Glitch
This word is used
when something odd happens the game, like clipping, or misrender. The
correct term is bug.
It may not sound as cool. Glitch is a hardware issue.
Hacked
A user uses this
word to hide the fact they have been fooled or
phished, other times they didn't
realized that they had given out information that may lead another user to guess
their password, also known as social engineering.
Noob
Slang for
Newbie,
or someone who just started gaming online. Misused as a derogatory term and not
to identify a new user. Original use was to apologize ahead of time to
team-mates or opponents for poor playing skills. |
